Together,

Alone, but together,

Together, but alone,

All alone, more alone,

it seems,

in the solitude of age

abandoned by the soldiers

fallen in the trenches of life,

but less alone,

perhaps,

in the laughter that cracks the air,

the murmurs of confidence

caught between two cups of tea,

the coming and going of the daily dust
