There is always a little bit of bitter sweet sadness at this time of year and as you say, a sort of feeling that you (or the seasons) are about to go to bed.
I can almost smell that apple. And fall is a bit sad, isn’t it? I try to think of it as the prelude to the bedtime of winter.
