Trying to sleep, but
you heard them moan
you heard them suffer
they were going to die
the trees without their roots
It was either Arthur C. Clarke or that other sci fi writer at the time, so I didn’t take it too seriously, finding their genre largely unbelievable, though recent research shows he might not have been far off about the trees…

I heard or read one day that Leonard Cohen started eating meat again the day he pulled a carrot out of a garden and heard it scream… ;o)
