On the eve of the biggest consumer celebration in the Western world, I remember that day I went to Fort-de-France. I was window shopping, not too convincingly, when a boutique attracted my attention The outfits on display were inspired by the Caribbean tradition. The fabrics were beautiful, the colours were vibrant but the flamboyant dresses could only be convincingly worn by West Indians. I even the less decided to go in to admire what they had. The saleswoman already knew that I would not buy anything, so she said to me gently: Do you want to watch in silence? Of course, she did not know that she had just made my day using this beautiful expression that I had never heard before and I simply answer, yes I will look in silence. I wish a more “silent” Christmas to those who wish one.
