Your poem made me think of A Compass Error by Sybille Bedford, in which a character expresses that when one is young, everything seems a rehearsal, then « One day you know the curtain was up all the time. That was the performance. » And that reminded me of Adrienne Rich’s Transcendental Etude, which also says we don’t get a rehearsal, and worse, that we begin in the midst of the hardest movement. Thinking that way could certainly focus the mind.
