as the tide has scribbled on the sand
the mood of its waves
I will scribble my page
with emotions that cannot be dissected

#4143 selfportrait *
I prefer to swim in winter, first because the water temperature (around 10 degrees) produces a lot of endorphins after my swims, and secondly because I am often alone. I can then completely soak up the beauty of the place, the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun on my face, while the rest of my body is numb from the cold. But even when I’m not alone, I like to be on the beach in winter because every walker gives off a sense of completeness, as if everyone is thinking: « how lucky to be here today ».

photo : this scenery summarises the New Zealand winter : cold (but not that much), but sunny, and one can even swim (if one can take 10 degrees)
in the harshness/
of winter/
the kindness/
of the sun warms my back/
above all let’s not forget the appeasement of the sea/
before I return.

Photo : Tahuna beach in the sunset light
We all follow a straight line/
even when it is not/
or we stand on the beach/
to decipher the science of/
the clouds in the evening/
light. Will it be sunny tomorrow?/
the main preoccupation and to be honest the only one/
these days.

photo : sunset in Tahunanui
In my still solitude/
I could see my self in the perfection of the evening,/
water, and the dark path going within/
gentle yet, bitter at the same time/
and the surprise to recognise/
pieces of myself
